The Texas Hill Country beat out 30 other top tourist destinations for the best spot to visit and the newspaper noted that the area west of Austin and north of San Antonio "might be the next best thing to crossing the Atlantic."

The New York Times described the Hill Country as being lush, colorful and offering green hills that are "evocative of Tuscany or the South of France."

Christian Fletcher, executive director for the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce, said he found it interesting the area is considered the top summer destination.  "Summer is considered our peak season but we have a lot to offer during the spring and fall," he said.  "(During the Summer) we have lakes for people to cool off, restaurants and venues to listen to live music.  There is also either morning or evening golf."

Fletcher said this area is underrated as a travel destination and he is appreciative that individuals are paying more attention to the Highland Lakes.

"We are happy to entertain anybody who follows (The New York Times) advice and comes to see us," Fletcher said.  "It is nice to be recognized as the rising star that we are."

The article in The Times mentions the 22 wineries located within the region and towns, such as Fredericksburg, Burnet, Lago Vista and more.
